Top House Alarm Gadgets and Home Security Systems that Fit Your Homes

So you're having a home security system fitted and you want to make sure that you get the right one. Here's a quick checklist before I start the main body of this post, to help you get started in the right direction:

1: Ask your insurer. If your chosen alarm system is not on their list then go back to the drawing board. Unless of course you want to end up voiding your home and contents insurance.
2: Choose a brand with a good reputation. To do this research your prospective house alarm system on social media streams. That's what they're there for ; )
3: Set your budget. You can get a perfectly adequate system for your needs in line with your budget, as long as you know what the budget is in advance. Pick a sensible figure and stick with it.

OK so now we're onto the main event. Given that you have kept the above three points in mind, we are choosing the best system for your home. First question: wireless or hardwired?

There has been an amount of talk in the industry recently, suggesting that wireless alarm systems are not as reliable as hardwired systems – there are fears that they may work less well in some circumstances, or that they can be hacked. The latter is certainly true – but then it is also true of hardwired alarm systems, as was terrifyingly demonstrated when two hackers (in the employ of a digital security company) test-hacked a car alarm system in two hours and took total ownership of it.

What's that got to do with your house alarm system? If it has any GSM capability (i.e. if it interacts in any way with a mobile telephone) then it is open to hacking and owning. The two hackers in question (I actually posted about this in another recent blog) pointed out that any security system that sends messages to your mobile when it is breached, can be reverse engineered so a mobile can breach it. My point: some hardwired systems also alert mobile phones, so they can be hacked just as easily as wireless ones.

Basically it's a matter of cost and convenience: hardwired costs more and is generally viewed as being more robust, while wireless is quicker to set up and can be moved with you if you move house.

The items you choose to have within your system can range from simple sensors and alarms to CCTV and off site monitoring. In general terms you've got to arrays of sensors: one array protects your doors and windows while the second protects individual locations in your home. The window and door sensors will normally work by having contacts on the door (or window) and the frame, which when broken trigger the alarm.

Motion sensors and pressure pads inside the home do the same thing.

The real differences in home security systems are defined by what your system does when an alarm is triggered. The most basic system (which is not very helpful unless you are at home) will sound an alarm intended to scare an intruder away and to alert the surrounding area to a breach. However, given that most urban areas are so inured to alarm sounds that no one is likely to do anything about it, you're better advised to invest in an alarm system that also contacts either you or a third party security service.

There are varying levels of third party involvement that you can have – from a quick response by a designated key holder to full emergency services response. The more intense the response level you require, the more you will pay for the service.

If you want an alarm system that really fits with your home I'd suggest choosing a core provider like Honeywell or ADT. Also consider that the big name providers like this tend to offer monitoring services of their own – meaning you get the assurance of a respected name not just on the equipment that triggers your house alarm, but on the people whose job it is to respond to it.

SanDisk Extreem 128GB SDXC Card 45MB/s — World’s Fastest!

My D-SLR camera, Nikon D7000, still uses SDHC card. It has two card slots, and I fill each slot with SanDisk 16GB SDHC card which has maximum speed of up to 15MB/s. So now I have 32GB storage for my camera. Is that enough? It’s not, getting out of storage space are very common when I choose RAW file format. A 1 RAW file is about 20MB, it’s a very large file, isn’t it? I don’t use my camera for video recording very often, HD movie recording will eat my storage even faster. It’s true that digital media requires larger and larger storage, I can not imagine how 3D movie making like ‘AVATAR’ ate their camera storage? For personal use, maybe the SanDisk 128GB SDXC card could save the problem for a while, but I’m not sure for the future, I think you know it, right?

I was lucky when I visited Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya in November, 2011. Why? because there was an event by Samsung, the company was demonstrating the new Galaxy Note to their customers in Indonesia. But my first hand on made me feel the device is little bit too big in my hand, it slipped out of my hand at the first touch, lucky me, it’s saved by the Asian sales promotion girl who standing beside me.

Samsung stated that Galaxy Note is not a phone neither a tablet, it’s new category that stands somewhere in between, just believe it what they say, no question. As far as I concern, the Note has larger screen than common smartphones available in the market. It boasts a 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED screen and includes a unique stylus called the S Pen. The Android-powered Galaxy Note also called the Super Phone, or whatever you like.

Expected to be available in carbon blue and ceramic white, Samsung will ship the Galaxy Note to U.S. customers through AT&T on February 19th. But you can place pre-order starting February 5th, the day when Samsung will air their first-ever Super Bowl ad.

Divorce proceedings have seen unprecedented levels of change thanks to technological innovations. Social Media

Social-networking sites have been cited as factors in many divorce cases over the past decade, often as evidence for unreasonable behaviour or infidelity. Suspicious spouses have logged on to their partner’s Facebook or Twitter accounts and found and recorded evidence of incriminating posts, photographs and status updates that suggest that there’s infidelity at play. Often the ‘guilty’ partner has argued that their social-media account doesn’t represent or mirror ‘real life’. However, usually the damage has been done and the courts are increasingly viewing posts on these sites as legitimate pieces of evidence in divorce cases.

Mobile Phone Apps

The emergence of apps has truly revolutionised the mobile-phone market, making smart phones extremely popular and fuelling their widespread adoption. Any developer with a creative streak can create and sell an app and the take-up is sometimes huge. Increasingly, new apps are being developed which allow people to carry out surveillance and spying activities. Mobile apps such as iPhone Spy work as a stealthy means of collecting information and data from the phone’s user. However, buyers should aware that this may be considered illegal in court, so extreme caution should be exercised. Jealousy and technology can be a very dangerous combination!

These apps have been used by several suspicious spouses who have submitted evidence to divorce courts gathered from their partner’s phone. Jealously can kill a marriage as quickly as cheating, whether it is real or imagined. There can be dangerous legal consequences to spying on people and prying into their affairs. At the same time, however, one could argue that technology is simply facilitating the function of the old ‘honey-trap’ agencies and personal investigators of the past. It could be described as simply a new way of doing something that has been happening for a long time. It’s an interesting technological concept with powerful social repercussions and it will be fascinating to see how the law and the divorce courts will respond to it.

I bought my first D-SLR camera almost two years ago, the lucky camera was Nikon D5000. A year later I converted my camera into Infrared camera and I bought a new D-SLR camera, and my second D-SLR is Nikon D7000. I have three lenses, an 18-55mm zoom lens, a 50-200mm telephoto zoom lens, and a 35mm fixed lens. All of my lenses are Nikkor AF-S. Lenovo said that the ThinkCentre Edge 91z is deployed by one of the world’s leading architectur firms, Satoshi Ohashi. I’m not an architect, but I used to be an architecture student in the past, so I little know the requirement of architecture tasks. Most of them works with graphic application such as Autocad, Autodek Revit, Photoshop, Archicad, 3DS Max, SketchUp, and/or other similar softwares. The more powerful the PC used, the faster the tasks can be completed.

With pricing starts from $799, the minimum specs of ThinkCentre Edge 91z are: Intel Core i3-2100 (3.1 GHz, 3 MB L3 Cache); 1GB DDR3 system memory; and Intel HD Graphics (Integrated). Uhm.. I think its basic specification doesn’t meet the top leading architect’s workload, am I wrong? So what are the maximum specs? Let’ see: Intel Core i7-2600S (2.8 GHz, 8 MB L3 cache); 8 GB DDR3 system memory; and AMD Radeon HD665OA 1GB. And yes, the maximum specs are very architect-friendly.

I don’t know how much we must pay to get the top-end model, I can’t find the detail yet. But you can browse Amazon.com to find it.

Regarding the rest of specs, the ThinkCentre Edge 91z features View Management Utility; 6-in-1 card reader; 2MP webcam with integrated mic; Spill-proof wireless keyboard; HDMI out / VGA in; and single-cable setup. Based on Android OS, LG’s Google TV is developed using LG's 3D and Smart TV technologies. You may ask what its key feature is, LG says that its Google TV is easily to use. Ultra-wideband and associated networking are on the development stage. UWB complements WLAN environment and extends high connectivity to WPANs that support PC, CE and Cellular devices. When using UWB radio the battery life is 3 times more when compared to Bluetooth-based solution. Without interference short-range video or around the body audio streaming is efficient.

Potential for a wire-free environment
Connecting your mobile phone to control your television is getting popular. This is just a beginning to get all your computer, consumer electronics and entertainment media hooked up wirelessly and it’s catching up fast.

Apple has an app called Remote which is a free download from the App Store. It converts the iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad into a remote control to control the computer’s iTunes library and Apple TV, from wherever in the house, and is easy to use. The Remote app complements with both AirPlay and Airport Express from the Apple stable.

The Google TV Remote for Android is also available in the market. There’s also a Samsung Remote App. This gives the mobile device ability to control your Samsung TV and BD equipment, when connected to your wireless router. Your mobile device can be used to switch on the TV using Bluetooth, provided the facility is built-in on the devices.

The Blackberry AppWorld has similarly the Verizon FiOS DVR, which gives users the facility to watch what and when they want. FiOS TV Remote DVR makes DVRs more versatile as customers can program them remotely through their computers and wireless devices.

The TV Remote Controller is a Pocket PC application which can make use of your PDA as a universal remote controller for Cable, TV, VCR, DVD, SAT and other equipment.

Committed to wireless technology, the technology giant Intel envisions that one day all devices will be connected by smart radios. It’s what they call Radio Free Intel. The concept is that a smart radio, capable of reprogramming and reconfiguring itself based on available spectrum, plus identifying the desired application and the partner device, will be integrated in most devices.

The future is not remote where everything goes nearly wireless.

Here’s a look at some of the hottest digital cameras out there right now. The Entry Level Affordable Point and Shoot

Sony’s Cybershot series has offered a wide range of affordable point and shoot digital cameras since 1996. They’re known for their quality and ease of use as much as their reasonable prices. The latest range of inexpensive Sony Cyber Shot cameras include the W530, W560 and the WX9, ranging from 14.1 to 16.2 megapixels at a wallet friendly range of $90 – $160.

Higher-End Point and Shoot

If theCybershot W series might be a little too basic, step up to Canon’s mid- to upper-range offerings. Higher-priced point and shoot digital cameras usually have more features than their entry level brethren. Entry Level DLSR

DLSR technology is the digital version of the old Single Lens Reflex cameras. In these cameras, a mirror allowed the photographer to see exactly what the camera lens sees. When the picture was taken, the mirror flipped up to expose the film. IN DLSR, the film is simply replaced with an image sensor. DLSR cameras usually have a lower megapixel rating, but this is made up for with a much larger and higher quality sensor than those found in point and shoots. Entry level DSLR cameras are priced in the same ranges as higher-end point and shoot cameras. They usually have lower resolutions and fewer features than pro level DSLRs, but with user friendly features and built in assist like auto focus and stabilization, they’re a good way to get your feet wet in the DLSR realm. Priced at roughly $300, Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-FZ47 is a best buy when looking for a beginner’s DSLR.

Mid range DSLR

Upper range DLSR cameras can cost as much as $3000, sometimes more. Let’s keep this somewhat affordable and keep you out of the pro camera shop, shall we? Mid range DLSR cameras are a great way for new DLSR enthusiasts to take that next step. A great buy in this range is the $800 Nikon D5100. This camera combines a 16.1 megapixel count with and advanced DX format sensor that will allow DLSR fans to step up and take amazing photos without breaking the bank completely. It can also double as a video camera, shooting in full 1080P HD.
